Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom has awarded 62 grants to 44 Virginia localities for the 2020-21 school year. Funding will be allocated to provide 22,000 youth with agriculture experiences related to gardening, animal agriculture, STEM, health, nutrition and leadership development.
Students will participate in a celebration of local agriculture as they observe the 10th annual Virginia Farm to School Week, Oct. 5-9.
Virginia’s Agriculture in the Classroom program is encouraging K-12 educators and organizations to apply for $30,000 in grants to help integrate agriculture into classroom curriculums in the 2020-2021 school year.
Due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom is asking volunteers to read to students in the fall as part of its agriculture literacy initiative.
Schools are closed, which means parents and teachers are trying to find ways to supplement students’ learning outside of the classroom.
